It’s refreshing to read a book from a series that d0esn’t rely on the reader having read the other volumes, and so despite the fact that many of the members of the two family trees have appeared in previous novels, I settled in to it easily. It turns out that his writing is impressive, and I begrudgingly admit that I really enjoyed reading it, despite that it’s the fourth volume in a series, the Clifton Chronicles. ![]() Now, I’m not a fan of Jeffrey Archer, but I base that entirely upon his history and personality. In fact, it was sent to me by StressFreePrintas part of their stress free reading package, and so the same book went out to a bunch of different bloggers who’ll all be reviewing it on their sites. ![]() This is a bit of an odd one, because although I was sent this book for free to review, it wasn’t from the author or one of his publishers. What begins as a recount of a woman being offered to a crime family in exchange for a debt, blooms into a narrative highlighting the growth of a group of damaged souls surviving and thriving. Ryder, Kenzo, Diesel, and Garrett are all alpha males all the way. Den of Vipers is a visceral tale of healing and acceptance one of letting go of the ghosts of the past and embracing what the present has to offer. She refuses to let anything bring her down and she fights with everything she is. ![]() I mean seriously how could I fall in love with this book when nothing about this group is normal. This book is HOT, dark, twisted, and it will definitely make you question your own sanity. Trust me when I say their relationship does not start out conventional in any way, but man do they make it work for them. Without giving too much away we get one sassy af heroine who is just as gritty, determined, raw, and a tad bit demented just like her men. I love a dark mafia read and you absolutely get this within these pages. This book is definitely a diamond in the rough and has become one of my top reads of 2020. Holy crap on a cracker this book has everything and I do mean EVERYTHING!!! I am not gonna lie when I read the blurb I wasn’t entirely sure I would enjoy it as much as I did. We need to find a way to give a book more than 5 stars when it deserves it. ![]() ![]() ![]() Ultimately, the work as a whole is a remarkable study of the mind's growth from its direct awareness to scientific philosophy, proving to be a difficult yet highly influential and enduring work. The body of the work is divided into six sections of varying length, entitled "Consciousness," "Self-Consciousness," "Reason," "Spirit," "Religion," and "Absolute Knowledge." A myriad of topics are discussed, and explained in such a harmoniously complex way that the method has been termed Hegelian dialectic. ![]() The Introduction, written before the rest of the work, summarizes and completes Kant's ideas on skepticism by rendering it moot and encouraging idealism and self-realization. It begins with a Preface, created after the rest of the manuscript was completed, that explains the core of his method and what sets it apart from any preceding philosophy. Perhaps one of the most revolutionary works of philosophy ever presented, The Phenomenology of Spirit is Hegel's 1807 work that is in numerous ways extraordinary. ![]() ![]() And I loved the Costa Rica jungle setting! I also liked the suspense and tension as they were being hunted in the jungle by the bad guys. This couple had great chemistry and I enjoyed the sexy love scenes. But was very sweet and thoughtful at times towards the heroine. He was sexy, strong, and a bit of a loner. The hero Grant Sullivan-a 38-year-old retired military expert. She was a heroine who actually listened to the hero when he gave her instructions in the jungle when their lives were in danger. ![]() She was quite brave and gutsy at times but also vulnerable and likable. ![]() The heroine Jane Greer-29 and divorced, she was no TSTL (To Stupid To Live) heroine. What follows is an exciting, suspenseful, and romantic story. Ex-government agent Grant Sullivan is hired by a wealthy man to get his daughter, Jane Greer, out of the Costa Rican jungle where she is being held captive by a powerful man who thinks she has access to important microfilm that he wants. ![]() ![]() ![]() Perhaps it will be objected that in bringing out the correspondences I have overlooked the differences between the various Oriental and Occidental, modern, ancient, and primitive traditions. The parallels will be immediately apparent and these will develop a vast and amazingly constant statement of the basic truths by which man has lived throughout the millennia of his residence on this planet. The second step will be then to bring together a host of myths and folktales from every corner of the world, and to let the symbols speak for themselves. Without regarding this as the last word on the subject, one can nevertheless permit it to serve as an approach. But first we must learn the grammar of the symbols, and as a key to this mystery I know of no better tool than psychanalysis. Once we have learned to read again their symbolic language, it requires no more than the talent of an anthologist to let their teachings be heard. The old teachers knew what they were saying. “It is the purpose of the present book to uncover some of the truths disguised for us under the figures of religion and mythology by bringing together a multitude of not-too-difficult examples and letting the ancient meaning become apparent of itself. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Let me start by giving you a brief introduction to Joe Moscheo, for those who don’t know who he is. The actual book is scheduled for release on August 7th, for Elvis Week. I had the privilege of reading the advance copy. After all, we can spend our money only once – right? One of the books that has been announced for quite some time now, is “The Gospel Side of Elvis” by Joe Moscheo. There’s nothing wrong with the flood of ‘new’ books, as long as we – the fans – pick the right ones, and leave the others untouched. “Inside Double Trouble”, “Tupelo’s Own”, “Elvis Straight Up”, “Still Taking Care of Business”, “Elvis Is Back, … all of them proof of the ongoing Presley Power. It seems as if Elvis books are being released almost on a daily basis. 2007 promises to be a historic Elvis year. Two months prior to the official release of the book "The Gospel Side of Elvis" by the Imperials's bass singer Joe Moscheo, Elvis Matters reviewed an advance copy. ![]() ![]() ![]() Still, book 2 ended in a pretty satisfying way. ![]() Jeff Strand is pretty reliable with his horror thrillers (often administered with an absurdist flourish, as it is here), and the Wolf Hunt series is by far my favorite of his work. ![]() I first came across these books (book 1 and book 2) a few years ago and enjoyed the hell out of them. And those of you who haven’t read Strand yet, just get your ass in gear already – it is hardcore fun like nobody else can. I can say, though, that Strand fans will enjoy this. But maybe I’ve read them too close to each other – something like ‘too much of a good thing’. There’s still blood and gore and comedy, as only Strand can do it. This story was a really good werewolf story, but it didn’t blow me away like the first two. The big question will be, who is actually the bad guy in this story? The guy who brought them back to life, or the man he wants them to kill… “Let’s just relax and enjoy our uneasy, tense relationship.” Why, they have to work together in this one, of course. ![]() “It’s amazing what you can do with science or sorcery these days.”Īnd how can you make them regret coming back to life? That’s right, both Lou and Ivan are brought back to life. How can you possibly tell a third story without those two? So, in WOLF HUNT, Ivan the werewolf was killed. I’m not exactly sure if I should call spoiler for Wolf Hunt 1 and 2, so if you want to read them first, stop reading this review. ![]() |
